Record high water levels are causing serious concern about potential flooding in low-lying areas in 14 districts of Bihar. Heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of rivers in Nepal and Bihar has led to increased water discharge through the Birpur and Valmikinagar barrages. Bhagalpur and Katihar districts are expected to be most affected by the floodwaters. Officials have begun urging residents between the Kosi embankments to relocate to higher ground as a precaution. The state water resources department has issued a high alert to district magistrates, cancelling leaves and instructing officials to monitor embankments closely.
